For years, most people would’ve thought Lyn Denton had it all—a strong marriage, 4 sons, 12 grandchildren. But inside, Lyn carried deep pain from a decade of childhood sexual abuse. This week on Open House Lyn will tell her story, describe her journey of healing, and take your calls.
We’ll also review Evan Almighty, and hear how forgiveness is transforming terrorist-affected Indonesian villages—some dramatic stories there. So, do join me this Sunday!

After listening to Lyn Denton talk about recovery from sexual abuse I thought you should know of a helpful recovery resource. Dr Allan Meyer has written the Lifekeys programs. I personally have found his talks, CD’s and seminars a great source of renewal through the work of God’s Holy Spirit.
There was sexual abuse in our family. My parents had two broken marriages; my natural dad was weak in emotional character building and there was a gay man in the process while I was at school. He did things he should not have done. Memories remain, but the power of these past events has reduced through God’s healing and understanding God as the origin of our need for intimacy. He knows how best we should rebuild our relationships.
People like Allan who have spent many years of specialist study, have been very useful in assisting my reconnection to God and reconstructing life. Accepting our current position is a good start, but we don’t stay there. Sadly some churches don’t support the need for seeking help to grow out of the need for inappropriate sexual gratification, saying that a faithful, committed relationship even if a same sex one, is enough. I have found it helpful to face the hurts of past aberrant relationships and earnestly seek God’s strength to grow toward more wholesome relationships, understanding what God’s ideal should be. Yes, it hurts. There are failure some times; but at least having the desire to do God’s will is progress. Like the marathon race, we keep striving even when our emotional muscles have become tired and weary.
