Open Up - Simple Pleasures

When Dr Archibald Hart joined us this week, he told us about 'anhedonia' - the overloading of our brain's pleasure centre through constant stimulation – whether it be through the internet, multi tasking or constant interaction via text messaging or email. He talked about 'Type A' pleasures: brought through gizmos and gadgets, DVDs and MP3s, even bungy jumping and heli-skiing, versus 'Type B' pleasure: playing with the kids or having a picnic with the family for example. Type A pleasure overloads and then drains us; Type B pleasure restores and nurtures us.

What I want to know is, what are the Type B pleasures in your life? What are the simple things that make you happy? Maybe it’s doing art, photography, or simply cleaning your dog on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe it’s going on a picnic, tickling your child, or having coffee with your best friend.

What’s your simple pleasure, and how have you pared your life down to enjoy it?

My simple pleasure is going for runs in the bush along bush tracks. Running through and admiring God's creation is awesome!
