This week we heard from Geoff Colvin, author and editor of Fortune Magazine, on his book "Talent Is Overrated". His research shows, perhaps surprisingly, that hard work, passion and practice is more important than any natural inbuilt ability.
Send us your thoughts:
• Is there such a thing as inbuilt talent from birth? Or is Geoff Colvin right – are we all clean slates and our ability just comes down to practice and hard work?
• Where does God fit into all this considering he talks in Psalm 139 about knitting us in our mothers womb, etc?
• Geoff talked about the vital ingredient of passion – where does that come from? Perhaps it’s something God endows…and sets us up in an environment that encourages us to develop certain abilities?
• Have you observed the principle of practice at work? Perhaps you know someone who’s excelled at something and it all came down to the dedication and practice?
• What have you observed, perhaps in your children, or in yourself and your friends and siblings as you grew up? Did some have a natural bent towards a certain area while others struggled?
