Open Up - "Are You Being Wilfully Stupid?"

This week we heard Winn Collier talking about Jesus's question to the disciples, "Are You Being Wilfully Stupid"...  He was pointing out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders - the way they put their religious traditions before true Godliness. But even his own disciples didn't get what Jesus was saying at first... They were too stuck in their own traditional ways to understand his point. Does that sound like a familiar scenario? Let's open up a discussion on this...

• Do you think there are some ways that we hold onto our own modern-day traditions, even though it might contradict the way that God's word tells us to live?

• This isn't an opportunity to bash each other up for our errors, but let's see if we can explore this in a positive, constructive way.

• It's a confronting question - "are you being willfully stupid" - but Jesus asked it in love. In what situations do you think Jesus might ask us that same thing today?

• What things are we willfully blind to, that Jesus might open our eyes with some good old-fashioned blunt honesty?

• Winn talked about things like the Crusaders whose religious military campaigns clearly contradicted God's law of love...

• What about errors in organizations today or in our own personal lives?

• Have you ever had to face up to your own willful ignorance as Jesus put it? Perhaps a character flaw you had shut your eyes to?

• What opened your eyes and made you change - was it a question as blunt as the one Jesus asked? Tell us your story.
