Janine is a mum, whose kids are enrolled in a private Christian school. She's been really happy with the school until recently, when she discovered they're teaching her kids some theology that she's really not comfortable with. The school is affiliated with a different denomination than the church she attends, and she doesn't agree with all their doctrines.
The basics of faith are being taught ok - things like Jesus's death and resurrection - but in some other areas that Janine feels are really important, their beliefs are quite different. She just doesn't want her kids being taught these things.
What should Janine do?
DISCUSSION POINTS
• Janine's worried her kids will be led astray or confused about their beliefs.
• We won't go into detail about exactly what areas of doctrine Janine's concerned about here, but suffice to say that she feels it's really important - so much that she is considering pulling them out of the school.
• Should she pull them out now? If she does she's worried about disrupting their education and unsettle them halfway through the year.
• Should she wait til the start of next year and change schools then?
• Or should she maybe be more relaxed about this particular area of doctrine she's worried about?
• What's more important: Protecting your kids and making sure they're learning the things you believe in most strongly; Or letting them be exposed to differences, and correct things at home where necessary?
