Restlessness, Rest, and Sabbath

We've heard this week about hyperculture, and the many ailments that come from not slowing down to rest... And then we've heard about the solution that God has offered to us from the very beginning... Now I'd love to hear your thoughts on Restlessnes, Rest and the Sabbath...

DISCUSSION POINTS

• Have you had an experience where you moved from Hyperculture/ Fast paced living, to introducing a Sabbath into your life?

• What made you start including intentional rest into your life - and what impact has it had?

• What does your Sabbath look like - what do you do or not do on that day?

• Have you found it difficult to keep a full day of rest in a society that encourages us to be on the go, 24 / 7?

• If so, what creative solutions have you come up with to withstand the pressures of a busy world and respond to God's call to rest?

• Tell us your Sabbath story.

Dion:

Hi,
Just listening to Brigid Delaney, I can relate to the moving and changing and churning in life. In my 31 years I have moved house 15 times in 6 different towns/cities, with my longest stint being 12 years from age 5 - 17. As well as that I have completed 2 uni courses and now not working in either of those fields and have had about 12 jobs in the last 11 years. I have recently married a girl who spent the whole of her life in the same house. She has now moved with me twice!
Some of my big questions with this way of life and living is whether I am really following God's call for me. Am I living where God needs me to be?
In terms of my sabbath, I have found many ways to take time out, unfortunately not in a very structured way. I love to break and go on walks and pray. I love to take time out every 3-4 months and retreat to re-energise with God. And I have recently begun full-time lay ministry I have set aside one weekday to disengage from my regular work to rest, pray and "enjoy" God. I am hopeful this will establish a positive habit with God.
Thanks for your show.
Blessings,
Dion
