Wi-Fi and Internet Privacy

Internet Privacy is on the public radar this week, after a couple of news storys about Google and Facebook hit the headlines.;
On the Google front - Some privacy groups are taking the company to task for collecting details about household wireless networks. You may have heard of Google Street View , that's the map service that allows you to actually see a photo of the street address that you're looking for ... Well when Google's drivers are out taking those pictures of your house, they're also collecting info about your wi-fi internet connections, by recording serial numbers called MAC addresses.. This could even give them info about what type of gadgets we have in our homes.
Meanwhile on the Faceboook front, there's been a big rise in the number of people wanting to shut down their Facebook accounts, because it's getting harder to keep your personal information private on the social networking site.
This week we spoke about the topic to David Vaile, Executive Director of the Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre at the University of NSW. He's also vice chair of the Australian Privacy Foundation.

What are your thoughts on this?

Are you worried about online privacy? Does the idea of Google collecting your information make you uneasy?
