Election 2010

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has called an election for August 21. After being in the job for just a few weeks, she is asking the Australian people to affirm or reject her Prime Ministership. Do you feel ready to make such a judgement? And what are the important issues for you?

Each Sunday leading up to the election, we are aiming to have a Christian representative from the Labor Party, the Liberals, the Greens and Family First join us on the show and tell us why their party deserves your vote. So, now is the time to get your questions ready.

What is going to determine how you vote in this election? Which issue is primary for you? Climate change? Reducing national debt? Asylum seekers and 'boat people'? Something else? What questions would you like us to put to each party to help you decide who gets your vote?

Post your questions, concerns and queries now.

Each week we'll add the interview for each representative here:

Week 1: Lin Hatfield-Dodds Greens candidate for the ACT LISTEN NOW

Week 2: Guy Barnet, Liberal Party Senator from Tasmania LISTEN NOW

Week 3: Wendy Francis, Family First senate candidate, QLD. LISTEN NOW

Week 4: Senator Ursula Stephens, ALP Senator, Hume, NSW. LISTEN NOW

Antoinette:

It is a shame I missed an opportunity to ask Lin some questions but it seems to me from listening to this podcast that she is a great diplomat, carefully answering sensitive questions and always avoiding answering the question directly. I would die before I vote for the Greens but I respect the freedom of choice that we have in this country. wow, which church does this so called Chrisian belong to? Let's invite all the transvestites and deviates to our church. Just because Jesus loved all people does not mean he condoned their actions, nor would he have approved their involvement in church. They are invited to repent, not to be accepted as they are and Jesus would not and did not 'walk with' the sinner but invited the sinner to repent and follow Him.

Arran Green:

Question for the Labour party candidate - are all female members of the party required to join Emily's List? If so, given that abortion is a key policy of the members of Emily's List, how can this reconcile with Christians belief in the santity of life?

Paul Askin:

Helen, the Greens want same-sex marriage to have the same status as normal marriage. This is one reason I won't be voting Green.

Lin Hatfield-Dodds stated that gays are created in the image of God - directly contradicting the Bible.

Adam & Eve were made in the image of God, yes, but Adam's son Seth, was born in the likeness of Adam - not God as he was born with a sinful nature - compare Gen 1:27 with Gen 5:3. God told Adam & Eve to "be fruitful & multiply", that is not possible in a same-sex relationship.

Remember that God loves the sinner (John 3:16, Rom 5:6) but He abhors our sin and wants us to repent (or turn away) from sin (including but not limited to homosexuality).

Ally Brown:

How about a question on the importance of faith? Not just a 'I think there's something out there' response, but an understanding of what faith can bring to a person's life?

Oh, and what about faith in schools? Am sick of Christians being treated as the minority and that faith education, or faith values are not the norm in school as part of the curriculum and support base? Where do our children in public schools receive this from otherwise? Some parents struggle to teach or instil values... esp if they were raised with none themselves. They expect the school to instil them.

Helen Cooper:

What is the Greens position on same-sex marriage?
