Second Opinion: How to Help a Friend's Failing Marriage

This week's Second Opinion dilemma is all about helping a friend in need. It comes from Karina, who's concerned about her friend Ally.

Ally's marriage is in a mess. Her husband has an addiction to pornography; it's been going on for years and he no longer tries to hide it. It seems he also eyes for other women and is known to flirt in their company. If he hasn't already been unfaithful already, Karin worries that Ally's husband is heading for an affair.

According to Karina, each time Ally has tried to confront the issue of her husband's behaviour he's been able to convince her that their marriage is fine. So, Karina's at her wits end about what advice to give to Ally.

What on earth can Karina do to help and support her friend?

  • Karina knows how to be a listening ear, she's been doing that for years, but should she be advising Ally to take some sort of action? If so, what?
  • Karina doesn't believe divorce is a solution, but she also doesn't want to see her friend continue to be walked over and lied to. How can she help her friend realise that the marriage isn't ok, and to seek help?
  • What's a Biblical response to this situation that Karina can encourage Ally to take?

If you've had a friend in this situation, I'd love to hear from you, especially if they too action and saw some positive change?

Share your thoughts with Karina now.
